Route Planning
Plan efficient customer visit routes using smart optimization or manual selection. The Route Planning tool helps field sales reps minimize travel time while maximizing customer coverage.
Accessing Route Planning
Click Traveller in the main navigation to open the route planning tool.
The interface guides you through a 3-step process:
- Customer Pre-Selection - Set criteria and get suggestions
- Generate Route - Review and calculate the optimal path
- Save Activities - Add the route to your calendar
Planning Types
Choose how you want to build your route:
- Smart — Automatic suggestions based on customer segments and visit history
- Manual — Search and select specific customers yourself
- Predefined — Use pre-configured routes (if enabled)
Smart Planning
The system suggests customers based on:
- Customer segmentation
- Time since last visit
- Geographic proximity
- Number of visits per day setting
Manual Planning
Select any customer from your territory:
- Search by name or ID
- Toggle customers on/off from the list
- Set a starting point for the route
Predefined Routes
If enabled, select from saved routes:
- Choose the days you want to plan
- Pick a predefined route for each day
- The system loads those customers automatically
Step 1: Configure Options
Set the parameters for your route planning.
Time Period
Select the date range for your visits:
- Click the date picker to choose start and end dates
- Holidays and absences are highlighted
- Working days are automatically considered
Schedule Settings
- Schedule Time Window — Working hours (e.g., 09:00 - 18:00)
- Break Time Window — Lunch or break period
- Average Visit Duration — Minutes per customer visit (5-480 min)
- Visits Per Day — Target number of stops per day (Smart mode)
Starting Point
For Smart and Manual modes, optionally select where to begin:
- Choose a specific customer as the starting point
- The route calculates from that location
Salesman Selection
Plan routes for team members:
- Select a salesman from the dropdown
- Their customer base and holidays are loaded
Click Submit to generate customer suggestions.
Step 2: Select Customers
Review and adjust the suggested customers.
The Customer List
Each customer shows:
- Name and ID
- Selection status (checkbox or marker icon)
- Time since last visit
- Segment information
Selecting Customers
- Click the marker icon to include/exclude a customer
- Click the flag icon to set as starting point
- Double-click to toggle selection quickly
- Use the search bar to find specific customers
Map View
The interactive map displays:
- Customer locations as markers
- Selected customers highlighted
- The calculated route line (after generation)
Click on map markers to:
- View customer details
- Add or remove from route
- Set as starting point with Start here
Toggle Views
In Smart mode, switch between:
- Only Suggested Customers - System recommendations
- All Customers - Your entire customer base
Step 3: Generate Route
Calculate the optimal travel path.
Calculate Route
- Review selected customers
- Click Calculate Route or Recalculate Route
- The system computes the best sequence
Route Information
After calculation, see:
- Distance — Total kilometers to travel
- Driving Time — Estimated time on the road
- Visiting Days — Number of days the route spans
- Customers Visited — Total stops in the route
Day-by-Day View
If your route spans multiple days:
- Use the day tabs to navigate
- Each day shows its stops in order
- The map updates to show that day's route
Warnings
A warning appears if:
- The route has too many customers for the time window
- Customers are too dispersed to fit constraints
Adjustments
Before saving, you can:
- Remove customers that don't fit
- Recalculate after changes
- Change the starting point
Step 4: Add to Calendar
Save the planned route as calendar activities.
Save to Calendar
- Review the final route summary
- Click Add to Calendar
- Visits are created for each stop
Confirmation
The system shows:
- Number of visits created
- Success message confirming calendar updates
View Your Schedule
After saving:
- Open Schedule to see the new activities
- Activities appear at their calculated times
- The route is ready for execution
Best Practices
Planning Efficiently
- Start with Smart mode to get data-driven suggestions
- Adjust visits per day based on your average
- Leave buffer time for unexpected delays
Geographic Clustering
- The algorithm groups nearby customers
- Check the map to verify logical groupings
- Consider traffic patterns in urban areas
Time Management
- Set realistic visit durations
- Account for break times
- Don't overbook - quality over quantity
Weekly Planning
- Plan routes for the week ahead
- Use the same starting point for consistency
- Review the schedule before hitting the road
